About
I’m Caolán. I’ve been working in music for over a decade in various parts of the industry. I started off interning at Smalltown America Studio while I studied at the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC) at Queen’s University, Belfast. During this time, I also did a little bit of live sound & tour management for people like Tom Robinson.
After graduating from SARC in 2015 with a First Class Honours degree (BSc Music Technology & Sonic Arts), I started working full-time from Smalltown America Studio recording & producing artists like Imelda May, Cherym, Our Krypton Son & PORTS.
Since then, I've been working with bands from all across the world. Recent production credits include Joshua Burnside, Kilgour, New Pagans & Parker with tracks receiving airtime on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music & KEXP.
I’ve made albums that have won the Northern Ireland Music Prize & been featured in NME, Clash, Kerrang! & DIY among others.
As a multi-instrumentalist, I’ve played on tracks that have been used for sync in programmes like Made In Chelsea & productions by the BBC. You can usually find me behind a drum kit but I love playing bass, guitar, piano, synths or clarinet if the song might need it…
These days, I can mostly be found mixing records, writing songs with other artists and composing music for theatre & screen.
I have co-written tracks with the likes of ROE, Parker, Reevah, Sinéad White, Ciaran Lavery, Andrew Ferris (of Jetplane Landing) & Outside Golden.
More recently, I’ve been making indie-electronica music under my own name, with my debut single ‘Walking Into The Furnace’ premiering on BBC 6 Music. It’s been played across BBC Radio 1, RTE 2XM & RTE Lyric FM. I’ve also been supported by major broadcasters such as Huw Stephens, Nick Grimshaw, Lauren Laverne, Nabihah Iqbal, Peter Curtin and Emily Pilbeam.
In November 2024, I was commissioned by Field Day Theatre Company and The Playhouse to compose a score for The Seamus Deane Annual Lecture. Through the lens of electronica, contemporary-classical & ambient music; the score looks at themes of colonialism and its impact on the climate crisis.
I’d love to hear about the music you’re making - if you want to get in touch about working together, just drop me an email!
